China Now: Seminar – Live Simulcast, open to Teachers and the General Public

1990 Institute is proud to present our seventh annual CHINA NOW: Seminar, a lively two day forum where experts on China present the latest information on modern China. The general public is invited to attend this seminar through our simulcast, and enjoy the presentations through the internet. Teachers are invited to attend the seminar in person, and then join in on lesson planning workshops, have in depth discussions the speakers and get to know other teachers interested in modern China. (Note: the teacher workshops are not broadcast via simulcast due to their interactive, live nature.)

• Inspirational Speakers: Uniquely qualified China specialists with deep background and experience present diverse and balanced viewpoints, helping put issues into context. Last year’s speakers included Rob Schmitz (NPR), Janet Yang (Film Producer), Scott Rozelle (Stanford University REAP), and Clayton Dube (Director, USC U.S.-China Institute).

• Up-to-the-minute Information: Speakers have access to the most current information about the latest issues.

• Watch wherever you are: Join the simulcast from any location, from the privacy of your living room, or an internet café.

• Choose your sessions: You can join all six 90-minute sessions or only choose the topics that interest you.

• No fee! The simulcast is free! You simply need to register to receive the link and a detailed schedule.

China Now | Seminar + Teachers Workshop – open to 6^th-12^th Grade Teachers

Teachers are invited to attend the seminar on-site, which is followed by an interactive, hands-on lesson planning workshop.

Bring contemporary China into your classroom! This summer, join 6th-12th grade colleagues for our 7th annual China Now: Seminar + Teachers Workshop. Gain a balanced view of current issues to share with your students. Work with UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project facilitators to strengthen instructional practice and develop effective classroom materials. Dive into contemporary China and engage with leading China specialists focused on where the U.S.-China relationship is now and where it’s headed.

• Stipend: Upon completion of all workshop requirements, San Francisco Bay Area teachers are eligible for a $200 stipend, California teachers outside the Bay Area are eligible for a $300 stipend, and out-of-state teachers are eligible for a $400 stipend.
