Summary | In 2021, both political parties have increased efforts to recruit more Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) to run for public office, especially after the election of Vice President Harris, the first South Asian person to hold this position. Though Asian Americans have been elected to local office in communities with large AAPI populations, more racial minority candidates are seeking public office where they are not widely represented. Groups focused on AAPI representation are also providing more resources to suppot political candidates as well as to engage more AAPI voters. |
Excerpt | Asian Americans are not a new phenomenon in being involved in politics, but are a new phenomenon in being elected. |
